Probiotics For Gut Health

Probiotics and why it matters to our gut

With the growing interest in health and wellness, many people now know about probiotics and gut health. It's now also common practice for many to include probiotics as part of their daily diet.

With all the benefits attributed to it, it is a good thing to know a bit more about probiotics. Probiotics is the collective term applied to the millions of live microbiota such as Lactobacillus that live in our gut. When our gut health is thrown off balance, we become ill physically, and it sometimes even affects our emotional and mental well-being.

Not an instant cure

Taking a probiotics supplement once will not be effective. Instead, making probiotics a regular part of our daily diet is the better way to help maintain gut health and our overall health.

Over time, probiotics will help with problems such as diarrhoea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and colic, as well as help you build a better mood from lower stress levels. A healthy digestive tract also leads to stronger resistance to coughs, colds and infections. This is not surprising as a large part of the immune system is focused in the area around the digestive tract.

Make probiotics part of your diet

Sources of probiotics

As mentioned earlier, probiotics are live microbiota. They are found in bacteria, yeasts and fungi. The Lactobacillus bacteria found in supplement drinks is a convenient way to balance gut health. Other sources are fermented foods that we are all familiar with, including yoghurt and pickles.
